Calls for application

Here you will find all currently open calls from the news feed as well as information on LTH-internal calls and external calls that require an LTH or LU internal management process.

Some grants require an LU internal management process before an application can be submitted. Here we list those that recur at regular intervals.

Mats Paulsson’s Foundation for Research, Innovation and Civil Engineering

Mats Paulsson’s Foundation (website in Swedish)

Annual call for project and infrastructure funds

May be applied for by researchers at LTH, the Faculty of Medicine and Malmö University. The faculties prioritise and select which researchers may submit applications to the foundation.

The purpose of the foundation is to promote scientific research, especially in the field of “Life Science”, in such a way that health care, development, innovation and community building in Skåne County are benefited. Projects must have clear innovation potential.

The Foundation is the owner of Medicon Village, which offers a unique environment for Life Science by integrating research, innovation and entrepreneurship. The model is that the return on the Foundation’s capital together with the surplus from the activities of Medicon Village is reinvested in research.

The Wallenberg Foundations

The Wallenberg Foundations is the collective name for 16 foundations, the three largest of which are the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW), which mainly supports science, medicine and technology, the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (MMW), which mainly supports the social sciences, and the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Foundation (MAW), which mainly supports the humanities.

Universities are invited by the foundations to nominate researchers to apply for each call – the foundations limit the number of nominations per university. LU and the faculties have their own process for collecting nominations.

The Wallenberg Foundations – how to apply

Guidelines are available on each foundation’s website. Applications must be prioritised by LU before being sent to the foundation in question, and will be handled in accordance with LU’s processing rules. Applicants from LTH should contact Research Coordinator Kristin Scott kristin [dot] scott [at] lth [dot] lu [dot] se (kristin[dot]scott[at]lth[dot]lu[dot]se) well in advance of the deadline for faculty nominations to LU.

Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW)

Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation website

The Foundation supports projects with high scientific potential. Projects should be focused on a coherent research question where the complementary competencies of the participating scientists give new possibilities to attack the chosen research question.

A typical project will have a budget of between SEK 15 and 40 million and a duration of three to five years.

Wallenberg Academy Fellows (WAF)

Individual long-term support for 5 years to outstanding researchers in all disciplines (medicine, natural sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences).

Wallenberg Academy Fellows prolongation grant

Those who have received WAF are offered to apply for a 5-year extension in their last year.

Wallenberg Scholars

The programme aims to support and stimulate some of the most successful researchers at Swedish universities. The grant is for 5 years and is freely disposable for the individual.

Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (MMW)

Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation website

Subject areas mainly in the social sciences (humanities, economics and social sciences), but also technology related to the social sciences. Calls for funds for research projects of high scientific potential, and individual support to outstanding researchers within the Foundation’s programmes.

Marcus and Amalia Wallenbergs Foundation (MAW)

Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation website

Subject areas mainly in the humanities (history, archaeology, art history, et cetera), but also technology related to the humanities. Priority projects include new research areas and research of a cross-disciplinary nature.

Infrastructure funds LTH

Researchers at LTH and the Faculties of Science and Medicine(NMT) are annually offered the opportunity to apply for infrastructure funding from the faculties. The distribution of funds and handling of applications for infrastructure funds will be coordinated between the NMT faculties and LU centrally.

Infrastructure funds

The call for applications for research infrastructure funding for the 2027 budget is now closed. Decisions will be announced in September 2026. The call for applications for the 2028 budget will presumably open in December 2026.

Strategic initiatives LTH

Applications must be submitted by the Head of Department using a template provided in the call for applications and sent to ansokningar [at] lth [dot] lu [dot] se (ansokningar[at]lth[dot]lu[dot]se)

The focus of this year’s call is specified in the call for applications. For the current call, please contact Kristin Scott via email kristin [dot] scott [at] lth [dot] lu [dot] se (kristin[dot]scott[at]lth[dot]lu[dot]se)

Funding for initiatives promoting gender equality, equal opportunities and diversity (JäLM) at LTH

LTH invites departments, units and staff at the faculty to apply for JäLM funding for projects that strengthen work on gender equality, equal opportunities and an inclusive working environment. The aim is to promote long-term, systematic and sustainable work within LTH’s organisation, in line with the University’s active measures under the Discrimination Act and LTH’s action plan for JäLM.

The total budget for the call for proposals amounts to SEK 400,000 per year. Funding may be sought under two different tracks:

  • Track 1 – activities (SEK 10,000–25,000 per project)
  • Track 2 – projects (SEK 25,000–100,000 per project)

For both tracks, the project duration is up to one year. The current application period closes 1 June 2026.
