Recruitment – information and processes

Recruiting a new employee is an important investment for the organisation. Here you will find a general description of the recruitment process and links to processes and templates for different types of employment. Your HR partner can provide support on which employment you should choose.

Recruiting at LTH

For certain types of recruitment, LTH has its own processes, support materials and templates that differ from those used by Lund University. More information about LTH-specific recruitment processes can be found via the links below:

In other cases, recruitment is handled in a similar way throughout Lund University. This applies to the recruitment of technical and administrative (TA) staff, teaching assistants and student workers. More information about these recruitments is available on the HR website:

Since there is no job specification for the recruitment of teaching assistants in English on the HR website, you can use LTH's templates if you plan to advertise in both Swedish and English.

Recruitment process

At Lund University, we work with competency-based recruitment throughout the process – an approach that helps us to clearly define and assess the types of competencies relevant to the role.

Recruitment must always be carried out on objective and non-discriminatory grounds. As a government agency, we are guided by the principles of merit and excellence, with excellence taking precedence. Our recruitment process is to be characterised by professionalism, transparency and good documentation.

Below you will find a general description of a recruitment process.

Needs analysis

The needs analysis is the first step of the process. It will help you get an overall picture of what your organisation actually needs – both now and in the future. Consider whether the need can be met with existing resources, for example through professional development or reassigning duties, redeployment or through those with the preferential right to reemployment. Contact your HR partner for support.

Job specification ("kravprofil")

Based on the needs analysis, a job specification is formulated which governs the recruitment process. It clarifies which types of competencies are required and which are considered additional qualifications. It is important that the requirements are well justified in relation to the work duties – not least to avoid unjustified restrictions or risk of discrimination.

Vacancy announcement

The announcement constitutes part of our public presence and has an important role in attracting the right applicants. It is to reflect the job specification, be inclusive and illustrate why LTH is an attractive workplace. It is preferable to use multiple channels and networks to achieve a wide reach.

Selection

The selection process compares the experience and competencies of the candidates with the criteria indicated in the job specification. To support the process, LTH HR department can offer personality tests (MAP) and skills tests (Matrigma), which complement interviews and work samples.

Assessment and salary

When a final candidate is selected, it is to be done on objective grounds. The assessment is to be based on an overall evaluation of education, experience and personal suitability in relation to the job specification. Once the decision is made, the recruiting manager writes a statement documenting how the assessment was made – this is particularly important in the event of an appeal. Before setting salaries, always consult your HR partner for support and guidance.

Employment

Once everything is ready, the HR administrator registers the data in Varbi. HR then produces the employment decision in Primula.
